His Voice, My Hand
The Sunday after Thanksgiving we had a terrible storm here and the Mackinaw Bridge was closed . Winds hit 82 mph and thousands of people were stranded on this side of the bridge . There was a great demand for rooms so we decided to rent the few rooms we had open . As soon as people saw we were open we were flooded with travelers looking for a place to stay . With the weather the way it was and the power going on and off, we finally opened the third floor that had been drained for the winter and the beds were stripped . While I opened the rooms that I could Lanie handed out linen and told people to make their own bed and find a place to sleep . It got to be a kind of party atmosphere . We even had people sleeping in the lobby. Most people left us a donation when they left the next morning. This Page Updated [Hit Counter]
