God's Jewel Box

I'd listened to voices of the wise
and at times to views that I despise.
I'd heard the words of love and hate
and of those who want to agitate.

I searched and searched to find what's true
and one day realized what I must do.
So I got up early at first light,
determined to find out who was right.

With mixed emotions of joy and doom,
I crept into God's dressing room.
Very quietly, like a fox,
I opened up God's jewelry box.

I looked inside, and to my surprise -
religious symbols, every shape and size
All strung together on a chain of gold.
You cannot separate them, I was told.

Now, I have come to this conclusion --
our differences are just illusion .
