Easter

It’s true a messiah was born so long ago;
let’s call it Christmas Day.
But some people that were in power
just couldn't leave it that way.

So they added to the story--
just a little lie--
That he did not come to show us life.
He just came to die.

Jesus taught that he was
just like you and me.
He wanted only to show us life
and how to hear and see.

Teaching about the Love of God
was his mission very clear,
But the leaders of the church
thought we needed fear.

Jesus taught of the power of God
and one day he said, "even greater will you do".
The church just taught about the Law,
for they did not have a clue.

So a lie was added to the text,
and you can find the place.
It is right there in the book of Mark
just after the empty space.

It’s about His being different
and the church says this is true.
"Don’t try to follow his footsteps--
miracles are things only He can do."

Celebrate the life of Jesus
and the lessons that he gave.
For it was his mission
your "Joy of life" to save.

They take away our power
saying "He was not like you and me."
But He came to life on Christmas
To show us how to see.

So follow in Jesus' footsteps
is the only thing He would ask.
Love your neighbor as yourself
Now that’s a worthwhile task.

When you shed a tear on Good Friday
you may wipe it from your eye
For his message did not die there
and Easter is the lie.
